The Albanese Labor Government has announced a $120 million investment to deliver full maternity services at the new Rouse Hill Hospital, marking a significant victory for residents in one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions.

Federal Member for Greenway Michelle Rowland MP was joined by Federal Health Minister Mark Butler to unveil the commitment, which ensures the hospital will open with comprehensive birthing facilities, including birthing rooms, maternity inpatient units, and dedicated staffing support.

This investment builds upon the NSW Government’s existing $700 million commitment to the hospital and follows strong community advocacy — with nearly 4,000 locals backing petitions initiated by Rowland calling for full maternity services in the North West.

“Together with the community, I’ve been fighting for North West Sydney to have access to the very best health services,” said Minister Rowland.
“Securing full maternity services for Rouse Hill Hospital is a huge win. This outcome is a testament to how federal and state Labor are working together to deliver the infrastructure and services that families in the growing North West deserve.”

The Rouse Hill Hospital will be the first new major adult hospital built in Western Sydney in more than 40 years.

NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Western Sydney Prue Car welcomed the announcement, underscoring the unified effort between both levels of government.

“This project was promised time and again by previous Liberal governments but never delivered.
“Today’s announcement shows only Labor is investing in the infrastructure Western Sydney needs.”

The hospital’s expansion to include birthing services ensures women in the North West can give birth closer to home, easing pressure on existing hospitals and improving access to timely, quality care.

Federal Health Minister Mark Butler emphasized the broader significance of the investment.

“This election is a choice between Labor’s plan to keep building or Peter Dutton’s promise to cut.
“Only a vote for Labor is a vote for stronger Medicare and a better healthcare system.”

The funding will be included in the 2025 Pre-Election Economic and Fiscal Outlook (PEFO) and the 2025-26 Budget, confirming Labor’s commitment to strengthening frontline healthcare.

This maternity services pledge adds to a suite of national healthcare initiatives by the Albanese Government, including:

  • A $9.88 billion boost to NSW public hospitals in 2024–25
  • 14 new Medicare Urgent Care Clinics across NSW
  • The largest investment in Medicare in 40 years
  • Cheaper PBS medications, with prescriptions now capped at $25

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese highlighted the government’s long-term healthcare vision:

“Only Labor is strengthening Medicare with more free doctor visits, cheaper medicines, and new Urgent Care Clinics — where you use your Medicare card, not your credit card.”

With full maternity services now secured for Rouse Hill Hospital, families in Sydney’s North West are set to benefit from healthcare that grows with their community.
