A ghazal is a poetic form that expresses the sorrow of separation and the resilience of love. Originating in 7th-Century Arabia, it flourished in Persia through poets like Rumi and Hafiz, and by the 18th century, Indian poets were composing ghazals in Urdu and Persian. The word “ghazal” comes from Arabic, meaning “speaking with a beautiful young woman.”

In India, Jagjit Singh, hailed as the ‘King of Ghazals,’ revolutionized the genre of ghazal singing. His passing left a deep void, raising concerns about the future of the art form. Pankaj Udhas helped carry the legacy forward, but his loss soon followed. Today, artists like Hariharan, Anup Jalota, Talat Aziz, , Bhupinder Singh, along with a few emerging voices, continue to keep the ghazal tradition alive.

On June 15th, the iconic Sydney Opera House will resonate with the timeless magic of ghazals, as two celebrated voices come together for an unforgettable evening—an ode to the legends Jagjit Singh and Pankaj Udhas. Let the melodies carry you through a journey of love, longing, and legacy.”

Anup Jalota

Anup Jalota, the evergreen singer and musician best known for his soulful bhajans, has also gifted audiences with numerous hit ghazals. With over 5,000 live concerts to his name, he was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2012 for his contributions to classical music. His timeless ghazals such as Chand Angdaaiyaan Le Raha Hai, Tuhare Shehar Ka Mausam, and Main Nazar Se Pee Raha Hoon continue to captivate listeners.

Talat Aziz

Joining him is Talat Aziz, one of India’s leading ghazal singers, who has been enthralling audiences for over four decades. Known for his spellbinding performances, his most cherished ghazals include Phir Chhidi Baat Raat Phoolon Ki, Zindagi Jab Bhi, Ab Kya Ghazal Sunaaun, and Aawargi, among others.

Presented by Star Alliance Entertainment, this concert is featuring Padma Shri awardee Anup Jalota and the renowned ghazal singer Talat Aziz.

An unmissable ghazal concert.
