Desi Australia is an independent media platform connecting and amplifying the voices of South Asian Australians.

Founded in 1997 as desi.com.au, we began as an entertainment portal and have since evolved into Desi Australia (desiaustralia.com) – a multi-platform media organisation dedicated to serving one of Australia’s most diverse and fastest-growing communities.

For over two decades, we have documented the evolving journey of South Asian Australians – from migration and settlement to cultural identity, achievement, and contribution across every part of Australian society.

Our mission

To inform, connect, and represent the South Asian community in Australia while promoting inclusion, cultural understanding, and social cohesion.

We believe media plays a powerful role in shaping how communities are seen and understood. Too often, South Asian voices are underrepresented in mainstream narratives. Desi Australia exists to help change that – by providing a platform that is authentic, community-driven, and reflective of real lived experiences.

What we do

Through our digital, social, and editorial platforms, we share:

  • Community news and current affairs
  • Cultural, entertainment, and lifestyle coverage
  • Feature stories and interviews
  • Profiles of individuals, businesses, and leaders
  • Opinion and thought leadership
  • Media partnerships and branded storytelling campaigns

We also work closely with community organisations, government agencies, and brands to support meaningful engagement with South Asian audiences across Australia.

Our approach

We recognise the importance of cultural connection in communication. Where relevant, we support inclusive storytelling across languages such as Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Urdu, and other South Asian languages to better reflect the diversity of our community and strengthen engagement.

Our vision

A more inclusive media landscape where South Asian Australians are represented accurately, fairly, and meaningfully and where their stories are part of the broader Australian narrative.
