Shepparton, VIC – A regional dairy startup founded by two Indian-Australian entrepreneurs has taken home one of the highest honours in the industry, with its signature product earning the title of Australia’s top-scoring yoghurt at the 2025 Dairy Industry Association of Australia (DIAA) Awards.

Kisaan Dairy, based in Shepparton, wowed judges with its natural pot-set yoghurt, securing not just the highest yoghurt score in the country but also taking home six gold and nine silver medals across a range of product categories.

Co-directors Jaspreet Singh and Surinder Singh were stunned by the recognition. “We couldn’t imagine that in our first year, our product could do so very, very well,” Jaspreet said. “We were amazed that we won an award.”

The two founders—unrelated, but united by vision—first met in Melbourne in 2006 after migrating from India. Before venturing into dairy, they drove taxis and trucks. Their business was born from a grassroots demand for traditional Indian dairy products like dahi (yoghurt) and buffalo milk, prompting them to start small-scale production for local Indian sweet shops. The word Kisaan means farmer in Punjabi—a fitting tribute to their agricultural inspiration and cultural roots.

Kisaan officially launched its natural pot-set yoghurt and dahi in January 2025, after extensive product trials and tastings within the community. The pot-set yoghurt, which ferments naturally in the container, impressed DIAA judges so thoroughly that it was the only finalist in its category. “Usually there are two or three contenders,” Jaspreet noted. “This time, there was just one—us.”

Since then, the company has scaled its operations impressively, now producing over 100,000 kilograms of yoghurt per week and supplying to over 260 stores and cafés across Melbourne, Geelong, Griffith, and regional Victoria.

Their recent success was shared in a heartfelt social media post, where the Kisaan team thanked customers and staff: “This achievement is a testament to your love for our products!”

Kisaan’s current product line includes buffalo curd, milk, ghee, and yoghurt, with plans underway to introduce buffalo butter and paneer in the near future. The company’s trajectory from driving delivery trucks to leading the nation’s dairy shelves is not just a story of business growth—but one of cultural pride, hard work, and unwavering community support.
