In a moment that resonated deeply with the Indian diaspora in Australia, India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh made a spiritual stop in Sydney on October 10, 2025-visiting the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir to offer prayers, meet community members, and reflect on India’s growing stature in the world.

Welcomed by chants, devotional hymns, and the flutter of both Indian and Australian flags, Singh arrived at the mandir amid a warm reception. Young children sang the national anthems of both countries, symbolising the bond between the two nations. Inside, he participated in the aarti ritual with humility, and addressed the community with words that echoed more than faith-they spoke of shared identity, respect, and pride.

Standing before the congregation, Singh spoke of “dharma” as a universal force, one that preserves balance, rules, and righteousness. He remarked, “That which guarantees the protection of the animate or inanimate of this entire universe is called Dharma”, emphasising how India’s traditions carry values that resonate across borders.

While in Sydney, he also co-led India-Australia defence industry discussions with Australian ministers, as part of his two-day visit. During these talks, he reiterated how India is being recognized on the world stage-not just for growth in economy and technology, but for a confident role in shaping global narratives.

Singh took a moment to praise the Indian community in Australia: he said he was deeply moved by how people honoured both countries so respectfully. He referenced his meeting with Australia’s Prime Minister and Deputy PM, noting their admiration for India’s rapid development. “India today holds a special place in international forums, our views are being heard and recognised globally,” he said.

His visit to the BAPS mandir wasn’t just ceremonial. It served as a bridge between his strategic defence mission and the cultural heart of diaspora communities. For many in the crowd-families, students, professionals-the event reaffirmed that faith, heritage, and diplomacy can walk hand in hand.
