Bongosathi’s Rabindra Jayanti celebration, held on Friday, 8 May 2026 at Centenary Theatre, Williamstown, drew a packed audience and delivered an unforgettable evening of music, dance, poetry and cultural reflection in honour of Rabindranath Tagore. The event featured acclaimed Rabindra Sangeet artist Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, whose performance deeply moved the audience and made the evening a memorable tribute to Bengali heritage.

The program brought together families, students, artists and members of Melbourne’s Bengali community, reflecting the growing interest in high-quality Bengali cultural events across Melbourne’s west. Alongside Bannya’s performance, the evening included recitations, dance presentations and community performances inspired by the enduring literary and musical legacy of Tagore.

Bongosathi was honoured by the presence of Shri Anish Rajan, Consul General of India in Melbourne, and Mayor Cr Diana Grima of Hobsons Bay City Council. Their presence added special significance to the occasion and highlighted the importance of multicultural cultural programs in strengthening community connection and shared understanding.

Dr. Rabindra Nath Shaw, Founder of Bongosathi, said:
“Rabindra Jayanti is not just a cultural event, it is an emotional connection to our roots, our language and our identity. We are deeply grateful to the community for their overwhelming support, and sincerely thankful to our honoured guests, artists, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who made this evening such a grand success.”

The strong audience response once again demonstrated the important role community-led cultural events play in keeping language, music and tradition alive for future generations while also sharing Bengali culture with the wider Australian community. Bongosathi extends heartfelt thanks to all guests, supporters, cultural partners, volunteers and attendees for contributing to the success of the event.
