As Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to set new milestones in Indian politics, a unique coffee table book is offering readers an unconventional perspective on India’s transformation during his first term in office. Rather than relying on speeches, policy documents or political commentary, the publication tells the story through something found in everyday life — stamps, coins and banknotes.

Titled “Stamps, Coins, and Banknotes Issued During the Premiership of Shri Narendra Modi”, the 200-page volume documents major national initiatives launched between 2014 and 2019, presenting them through official commemorative and circulation issues released by India’s postal, minting and currency authorities.

The book has been curated and published by Mintage World, an online museum dedicated to coins, banknotes and stamps. According to its creators, the publication seeks to capture the historical significance of some of the most prominent programmes and campaigns introduced during Modi’s first term as Prime Minister.

Among the initiatives featured are Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Digital India, Make in India, Startup India, Jan Dhan Yojana, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Atmanirbhar Bharat, International Day of Yoga, Women Empowerment and several other programmes that have shaped public discourse over the past decade.

What makes the publication distinctive is its visual approach. Each chapter uses officially issued stamps, commemorative coins and currency notes as historical markers, providing readers with an alternative lens through which to examine policy priorities and national campaigns.

The book presents these collectables in chronological order, allowing readers to follow the progression of major government initiatives throughout Modi’s first tenure. Supporters of numismatics and philately often view such official issues as snapshots of a nation’s priorities and identity during a particular period in history.

Many of the featured stamps showcase important social, cultural and developmental themes through colourful artwork and symbolic imagery. Similarly, commemorative coins issued by the government often mark significant anniversaries, national achievements and public campaigns, creating a lasting record of key moments in India’s story.

The publication arrives at a noteworthy moment in Indian politics. Earlier this year, Narendra Modi became India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, surpassing previous records and cementing his place among the country’s most influential political leaders. His tenure has been marked by major economic reforms, digital transformation initiatives, infrastructure projects and an increasingly prominent international role for India.

For historians and collectors, official stamps, coins and currency notes offer more than aesthetic appeal. They often serve as valuable historical documents that reflect the social, political and economic priorities of a nation at a given time. In that sense, the book functions as both a collector’s item and a visual archive of contemporary Indian history.

The project is the brainchild of Sushilkumar Agrawal, founder and CEO of Mintage World. He describes the publication as a tribute to India’s transformation and an effort to create greater awareness of the commemorative issues released during Modi’s premiership.

According to Agrawal, the idea emerged from a desire to bring together in one volume the numerous stamps, coins and banknotes associated with important government initiatives. He believes no previous publication has attempted to document this period of Indian governance through such an extensive collection of official issues.

The book is also expected to appeal to the global Indian diaspora, including communities in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, where interest in Indian history, culture and collectables continues to grow.

Mintage World has previously produced other notable coffee table books, including a global collection of Mahatma Gandhi-themed stamps, coins and banknotes issued by 144 countries, as well as a publication dedicated to endangered parrots featured on currency and postal issues around the world.

The publisher has also revealed that a second volume is already in preparation. The upcoming edition is expected to cover stamps, coins and banknotes issued between 2020 and 2024, documenting India’s post-pandemic recovery, technological advancement and evolving national priorities during Modi’s second term.

As interest in modern Indian history continues to expand, publications such as this demonstrate how collectables can help tell larger national stories. Whether viewed as a historical archive, a collector’s reference or a visual tribute to a transformative period in India’s development, the book offers a unique perspective on one of the most consequential chapters in contemporary Indian politics.
