India’s High Commissioner to Australia, Nagesh Singh, joined Federal Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen for Diwali celebrations in the minister’s parliamentary electorate of McMahon, New South Wales, on 3 November 2026.

Singh attended the event with his wife, Pragjna Singh, joining members of the Indian-Australian community to celebrate the festival of lights.
Celebrating India-Australia Cultural Connections
The gathering highlighted the longstanding cultural connections and close people-to-people ties between India and Australia.
Diwali, celebrated by Indian communities across Australia, offers an opportunity to share traditions, strengthen community relationships and bring people from diverse backgrounds together.

The celebrations in McMahon also recognised the contribution of the Indian-Australian community to Australia’s multicultural society and its role in fostering connections between the two countries.
Strengthening Community Bonds
The participation of India’s High Commissioner alongside the federal minister reflected the importance of cultural celebrations in bringing community members and public representatives together.
Such occasions provide an opportunity to acknowledge the shared values, cultural heritage and ongoing friendship that connect India and Australia.
The event formed part of the wider Diwali celebrations taking place across Australia, as communities mark the festival through cultural gatherings and celebrations.
