Melbourne’s independent music scene is set to welcome a heartfelt new collaboration as Sri Lankan-born singer-songwriter Anuja joins forces with Daniel J Farthing of Melbourne indie band Better Than The Wizards for the release of their debut single, Wild Love. The track is scheduled to launch across streaming platforms on 28 July, marking the beginning of a promising creative partnership.

The collaboration began after the pair met at an RSOM networking event, where a shared passion for songwriting quickly turned into a musical partnership. What started as casual conversations soon evolved into recording sessions between Daniel’s home studio and Anuja’s studio in Melbourne’s Glen Waverley, allowing both artists to develop the song together.
Wild Love explores the emotional journey that follows the end of a relationship. Rather than focusing solely on heartbreak, the song reflects on the lingering affection, disappointment and acceptance that often remain long after two people part ways, offering listeners a thoughtful and deeply personal perspective on love and healing.
Through its lyrics, the song conveys the idea that genuine love does not simply disappear when a relationship ends. Instead, it suggests that meaningful experiences continue to shape people’s lives, leaving behind memories that can eventually be appreciated with gratitude rather than regret.
To enhance the recording, the duo enlisted the talents of drummer Jordan Kiely, whose live percussion adds energy and momentum throughout the track. Musician Hugh Nicolson contributed expressive keyboard arrangements, helping create a rich and atmospheric sound that complements the emotional storytelling.
The production was further refined by respected mix engineer Craig Kemp and mastering engineer Luke Mullan, whose expertise transformed the recording into a polished independent release while preserving the warmth and authenticity of the original collaboration.
Industry recognition has already begun to follow the project. Jordan Acker, an A&R representative from GYRO Music, praised the track for its strong songwriting and indie-folk appeal, suggesting it has the potential to resonate with audiences who enjoy contemporary singer-songwriter music and curated streaming playlists.
For Anuja, the release represents another milestone in her growing music career as an independent artist based in Melbourne. Teaming up with Daniel J Farthing has allowed both musicians to combine their individual styles while creating a song that reflects honesty, vulnerability and emotional maturity.
As Australia’s independent music community continues to flourish, collaborations such as Wild Love demonstrate the creative opportunities that emerge when artists from diverse backgrounds come together. The project also highlights Melbourne’s reputation as a vibrant hub for original music and emerging talent.
With its intimate storytelling, melodic production and relatable message, Wild Love is expected to connect with listeners who appreciate authentic songwriting and emotionally driven music. The single’s release marks the beginning of what both artists hope will be an enduring creative partnership built on friendship, collaboration and a shared love of music.
