The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the University of Queensland (UQ) hosted a launch event for “Understanding Australia’s Indian Communities: A Statistical Snapshot report” on Friday 25 July 2025 at Customs House, Brisbane.

Mr Peter N. Varghese AO, Chancellor of University of Queensland, Hon Time Watts MP, Special Envoy for Indian Ocean Affairs and Mr Brett Lovegrove Pro Vice- Chancellor shared their thoughts on the importance of strategic partnership between Australia and India and the role of the diaspora in strengthening ties between the two countries. Amongst the invitees, Dr Santosh Jetrana, Ms Neetu Bhagotia Consul General of India, Brisbane, Dr Susan Gasson were also in attendance at the event. The talks were followed by morning tea.
