Parramatta has taken a major step towards a greener future with the opening of its first Parramatta Community Recycling Centre, making it easier for residents to responsibly dispose of problem waste. The new facility is designed to help reduce landfill pressure while encouraging sustainable waste management across the growing city.
Located in North Parramatta, the centre allows locals to drop off a wide range of household waste items free of charge. This includes paints, batteries, gas bottles, fluorescent lights, as well as e-waste, polystyrene and textiles – items that are often difficult to recycle through regular waste systems.
The facility aims to simplify recycling for everyday residents, providing a convenient solution for disposing of materials that would otherwise end up in landfill. By offering a free and accessible service, the centre encourages the community to take an active role in reducing environmental impact.
Martin Zaiter said the centre represents an important step forward in improving local waste services. He highlighted that making recycling easier will help build a more sustainable, healthier and resilient Parramatta for future generations.
The $13 million project has been jointly funded by the City of Parramatta Council and the NSW Environment Protection Authority, reflecting a strong commitment to tackling waste challenges at both local and state levels.
Local MP Donna Davis emphasised the importance of initiatives like this, especially as Greater Sydney faces increasing pressure on landfill capacity. She noted that accessible recycling solutions are key to managing waste sustainably in rapidly growing communities.
Across New South Wales, more than 100 community recycling centres are already in operation, collectively diverting tens of thousands of tonnes of household waste from landfill. The new Parramatta facility adds to this network, strengthening recycling efforts across the state.
The Parramatta Community Recycling Centre is open from Tuesday to Friday between 8am and 4pm, and on Saturdays from 8am to 12pm, giving residents flexible options to recycle responsibly and contribute to a cleaner environment.

नॉर्थ पैरामाटा में स्थित पैरामाटा कम्युनिटी रीसाइक्लिंग सेंटर, समुदाय के सदस्यों से पेंट, घरेलू और कार बैटरी, गैस बोतलें (सिलेंडर) और फ्लोरोसेंट ग्लोब और ट्यूब नि:शुल्क स्वीकार करेगा।
स्थानीय निवासी नई सुविधा पर ई-कचरा, पॉलीस्टाइरीन और कपड़े भी ड्रॉप कर सकते हैं।
सिटी ऑफ पैरामाटा के लॉर्ड मेयर काउंसलर मार्टिन ज़ेटर ने कहा कि रीसाइक्लिंग सेंटर का समुदाय द्वारा काउंसिल की कचरा निपटान सेवाओं में अगले कदम के रूप में स्वागत किया जाएगा।
“हमारा अत्याधुनिक स्थानीय सामुदायिक रीसाइक्लिंग सेंटर निवासियों के लिए लैंडफिल से समस्याग्रस्त कचरे को हटाना आसान बना देगा, जो हमें अधिक टिकाऊ, स्वस्थ और अधिक लचीला शहर बनाने में मदद करेगा,” उन्होंने कहा।

पैरामाटा सामुदायिक रीसाइक्लिंग केंद्र मंगलवार से शुक्रवार तक सुबह 8 बजे से शाम 4 बजे तक और शनिवार को सुबह 8 बजे से दोपहर 12 बजे तक खुला रहता है।
