The AusKabaddi launch was supported by the Consulate General of India in Melbourne as part of Seva Pakhwada 2026. The initiative brought together sporting and community representatives while highlighting the people-to-people connections that continue to develop between the two countries.

The Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship is scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, later this month. The Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India has listed the championship among its 2026 international events, while Indian government event records confirm the tournament is scheduled for October 21 to 31.

For Australia, participation in the championship will provide an opportunity to compete against teams from across the Commonwealth and gain valuable international experience in one of the sport’s most established environments.

Kabaddi has deep sporting roots in India, where the discipline has developed into a major competitive sport through domestic tournaments, national championships and professional competitions. The Australian team’s arrival in Ahmedabad will therefore place it in an environment where the sport has a particularly strong following.

The launch of AusKabaddi also reflects the broader growth of kabaddi within Australia. Beyond competition, the sport has become another avenue through which Australian and Indian communities can connect through shared sporting interests, cultural exchange and international participation.

The involvement of the Consulate General of India in Melbourne through Seva Pakhwada 2026 adds a community dimension to the team’s international campaign. Initiatives linked to sport can provide opportunities to strengthen connections between communities while showcasing cultural links between Australia and India.

The Australian side will now focus on preparations for its trip to Ahmedabad, with the tournament providing an opportunity for players to test themselves against international opposition. Competing in India is also expected to give the team exposure to a highly competitive kabaddi environment.

The championship is being organised as an international kabaddi event bringing Commonwealth nations together in India. The Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India currently lists a probable player list for the 2026 Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship and has continued preparations for the event through its national federation structures.

With the tournament approaching, AusKabaddi’s launch represents an important step in Australia’s preparations. The Australian team will head to Ahmedabad looking to make its presence felt at the inaugural Commonwealth championship while contributing to the growing international profile of kabaddi in Australia.
