As the tricolour rises on the 77th Republic Day, hearts across India and the world swell with pride, celebrating a nation built on freedom, democracy, leadership, and unity.

On 26 January 2026, India marks this historic day – a moment that transcends borders, time zones, and geography. While the heart of the celebration beats at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, its spirit resonates across continents, uniting millions of Indians and friends of India worldwide in a shared celebration of democracy and constitutional values.

On the eve of Republic Day, President of India Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation, celebrating India’s democratic journey and the enduring ideals of the Constitution. Honourable President highlighted the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, acknowledged the nation’s social and economic progress, recognised the growing leadership of women, and emphasised the collective role of citizens in nation-building – setting an optimistic and forward-looking tone for the 77th Republic Day celebrations.

This message of unity and progress was echoed today at CGI Sydney, where the national flag was ceremonially hoisted and the National Anthem sung by attendees with much vigour and reverence. 

The President’s address was read by the Honourable Consul General of India, Dr. S. Janakiraman, reaffirming India’s democratic ideals, constitutional values, and progress in innovation, technology, and defence.

Attendees sang with much reverence, honouring the 150-year legacy of Vande Mataram, stirring a deep sense of patriotism and historical pride, and the event concluded with words of thanks and a delicious brunch by Dakshin, featuring authentic South Indian cuisine, bringing the community together in celebration.

In India, Republic Day is marked by grand parades at Kartavya Path, showcasing the nation’s military strength, cultural diversity, and technological achievements. State and Union Territory tableaux, marching contingents, and aerial fly-pasts highlight heritage, innovation, and unity. Across the country, schools and communities join in flag-hoisting and cultural programmes, bringing the day’s significance to every generation.
