In a touching ceremony at the South Australian Parliament House, Mr. Shalinder Laroia, founder of the Firozpur Foundation—a Punjabi-based NGO—was formally recognised for his outstanding humanitarian efforts that are making a difference far beyond India’s borders.

The event was hosted by the Hon. Michelle Lensink MLC, who praised Mr. Laroia’s tireless dedication to supporting families living below the poverty line in India. Describing the Firozpur Foundation as “a powerful example of grassroots action creating global impact,” Ms. Lensink acknowledged the significance of his work in fostering cross-cultural goodwill and long-term community empowerment.

Joining Mr. Laroia at the event was Mr. Kanwaldeep (KD) Singh, Trustee of MILAAP, a South Australian multicultural initiative that has been pivotal in identifying and uplifting individuals making meaningful contributions to society. MILAAP played a key role in connecting Mr. Laroia’s inspiring journey to Australian leaders and changemakers, ensuring his work receives the attention it deserves.

As part of the formal recognition, Mr. Laroia was presented with a special memento and treated to a guided tour of the historic Parliament House, highlighting its architectural and legislative significance.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Laroia expressed his gratitude:

“I am humbled by this honour and deeply touched by the warmth shown to me here. South Australia truly feels like a second home. This moment has given me renewed energy to expand the Foundation’s reach and continue our mission of serving those in need.”

This gesture by the South Australian Parliament not only honoured the remarkable work of one individual but also reinforced the state’s broader commitment to celebrating multiculturalism, community service, and humanitarian efforts that span across continents.

Through initiatives like MILAAP, more such stories are being brought into the spotlight—stories that inspire, connect, and ignite a spirit of service in communities around the world.
