High Commissioner of India to Australia Shri Gopal Baglay attended a special event organized by Australia India Punjabi Council (AIPC) to commemorate the 350th Shaheedi Diwas (martyrdom anniversary) of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, in Canberra on 29th November 2025. This was the maiden event for AIPC , aimed at highlighting the harmonious legacy of Punjab. President of AIPC stressed on the objective of AIPC of uniting the Punjabi Community in Australia within and with other communities across generations.

Besides telling the story of the 9th Sikh Guru and his close associates who were brutally and publicly executed in November 1675 in Delhi for their refusal to accept the sovereignty of Mughal Empire, the event also informed the audience about a commemorative postage stamp and a special coin dedicated to Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji issued by the Government of India.

Recalling that the sacrifice of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji exemplifies courage and unwavering commitment to righteousness and freedom in the face of grave and brutal adversity, the High Commissioner noted Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s unshakable love for entire humanity. He pointed out that generations to come will continue to derive inspiration from the teachings of Guru Tegh bahadur Ji which transcend borders and faiths.

The High Commissioner highlighted that the homage to Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in India was led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 25th November in Kurukshetra. He dwelt on the Government of India’s efforts like completing the Kartarpur Corridor, constructing the ropeway project at Hemkund Sahib, expanding the Virasat-e-Khalsa Museum in Anandpur Sahib and celebrating Veer Bal Diwas every year on 26th December.

Apart from the High Commissioner, the sangat (holy congregation) was also addressed by Hon David Smith MP, Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP, High Commissioner of Fiji to Australia H.E. Ajay Amrit, and other community leaders. Shabad, Kirtan recitation from Guru Granth Sahib and Langar (free community kitchen) for the entire sangat were also arranged.
