India has etched its name in the record books with a remarkable display of patriotism and innovation, as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands set a new Guinness World Records title for the largest underwater national flag.

The historic achievement took place at Radhanagar Beach (Havelock Island), where a massive Indian tricolour measuring approximately 60 metres by 40 metres was unfurled beneath the sea in a carefully coordinated operation.

A Complex and Coordinated Effort

The underwater feat involved more than 200 trained divers, including personnel from multiple agencies such as marine police, forest departments, and professional diving teams.

Executing such a large-scale underwater display required precision, teamwork, and strict adherence to international safety standards. The event was officially verified by a Guinness adjudicator, confirming it as a world record.

Senior officials, including Lieutenant Governor Devendra Kumar Joshi, were present during the achievement, highlighting the significance of the occasion at both administrative and national levels.

Showcasing India’s Marine Excellence

Beyond the symbolic value of the tricolour, the initiative was designed to spotlight the region’s rich marine biodiversity and strengthen its global reputation as a premier destination for scuba diving and eco-tourism.

The crystal-clear waters and vibrant underwater ecosystems of the islands provided the perfect backdrop for this record-setting moment, reinforcing their growing appeal among adventure seekers and international travellers.

Boosting Tourism and Global Visibility

Officials emphasised that the record attempt is part of a broader strategy to position the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on the global tourism map. By combining national pride with adventure tourism, the initiative aims to attract divers, explorers, and eco-conscious travellers from around the world.

A Moment of Pride Beneath the Waves

The underwater unfurling of the national flag was not just a technical achievement – it was an emotional and symbolic moment for participants. Holding the tricolour beneath the ocean served as a powerful reminder of national unity, courage, and pride.

With this milestone, India has once again demonstrated its ability to blend creativity, teamwork, and national spirit on a global stage – this time, beneath the waves of one of its most breathtaking island destinations.
