On 26 April 2026, the stage at Bryan Brown theatre, transformed into a sacred space as Disciple of Guru Smt. Kanan Shah and daughter of Hiral and Trushar, Dhwiti Joshi, presented her Arangetram, a defining milestone in her journey in the timeless classical dance tradition of Bharatanatyam.

An Arangetram, meaning “ascending the stage,” is far more than a debut performance. It is the culmination of years of unwavering discipline, early morning practices, repetition of adavus until perfection, surrender to rhythm, and deep immersion in abhinaya.
Under the meticulous and nurturing guidance of Guru Smt. Kanan Shah, Dhwiti has blossomed into a dancer of grace and strength. Her training has been rooted in tradition, precision, and bhava, honouring the lineage while finding her own voice within it. The Arangetram margam unfolded with poise and command, each piece reflecting both technical finesse and heartfelt expression.

From the intricate geometry of her footwork to the emotive storytelling in her abhinaya, Dhwiti demonstrated remarkable stage presence and composure beyond her years. The audience witnessed not just a dancer, but an artist stepping into her own light.
The stage was supported by a talented team of musicians: Shri Rucha Lange, Shri Maharshi Raval, Shri Satvik Desai, Shri Sabin Ghising, and Ms Sarjna Shah, with Ranjith providing PA support. The emcees included Mesha-Prisha and Anisha-Srishti, and the light and special effects production was managed by Monica. Decorations by Anita and Riddhi and hair and makeup by Ratna supported by Vandana and Zalak. The entire event was captured on video and photos by Venkatesh Babu.

The event was graced by the presence of Hon. Donna Davis, Smt Rekha Rajvanshi, Shri Jaykar Upadhyay and Shri Dhaval Amin as well as many community leaders and supporters, family of Dhwiti who flew in from overseas, friends, and well-wishers who praised Dhwiti for her dedication and artistry. In her address, Guru Kanan Shah expressed pride in Dhwiti’s journey and accomplishments.
This young Aussie-Indian girl expressed heartfelt gratitude to their guru, family, and friends for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout their dance journey.

The successful completion of the Arangetram signifies not just a personal achievement for Dhwiti but also contributes to the ongoing celebration and preservation of Bharatnatyam.
We wish Dhwiti and her guru a big congratulations and best wishes to take this art further to broader audiences.
