Captain Sophie Molineux has been selected for both the ODI and T20I squads, although her participation will remain subject to ongoing assessment as she continues her recovery from a hip injury. The squad also includes several key players who will form part of Australia’s return to home international cricket.

Lucy Hamilton has been selected for the T20I series but will miss the three-match ODI series after suffering a mild quad strain during training. Meanwhile, fast bowler Darcie Brown is unavailable after being assessed following her return from the Australia A tour of India and being diagnosed with a back injury.

Australia will begin the home campaign against Bangladesh with three One-Day Internationals at Allan Border Field. The matches, scheduled from October 9-14 October, will form part of the ICC Women’s Championship, where Australia has won all three editions and remains the only undefeated team in the current cycle.

The Bangladesh series will also provide Australia’s batters with an opportunity to face a bowling attack featuring a different style from the conditions they have recently encountered. National Selector Shawn Flegler said the series would offer valuable exposure to subcontinent-style bowling ahead of Australia’s next major international challenge in India.

Following the ODI series, Australia will face New Zealand in three T20Is at North Sydney Oval. New Zealand enter the series as the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup winners, with the three matches expected to provide both teams with an opportunity to refine their T20 combinations ahead of the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in India in February.

The Australian squad features a mixture of established international players and emerging talent. Vice-captains Ashleigh Gardner and Tahlia McGrath are included alongside Nicola Carey, Kim Garth, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Voll and Georgia Wareham.

Lucy Hamilton’s inclusion for the T20I matches provides another opportunity for the young Queenslander to continue developing her international career. Her absence from the ODI component is due to the mild quad strain suffered at training, with selectors hopeful she will recover in time for the T20 series against New Zealand.

Flegler said Molineux’s fitness would continue to be monitored before a final decision is made on her involvement. The captain has been included in the squad despite managing the hip issue, with the selection panel taking a cautious approach to her return.

Darcie Brown’s availability for the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League will also be assessed in the coming weeks. Her current absence means Australia will manage its bowling resources carefully as the team moves into the first home international fixtures of the new season.

The selection panel has also left the door open for players outside the current T20 squad. Grace Harris, who was not selected after the T20 World Cup, remains in consideration for future opportunities, with Flegler noting that the reduced squad size and limited opportunities during the global tournament contributed to the decision.

The home series will form an important part of Australia’s preparation for the next phase of its T20 campaign. The matches against New Zealand in particular will give the squad an opportunity to assess combinations and adapt to conditions before the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in India.

Australia’s ODI campaign against Bangladesh will begin on Friday, October 9 at Allan Border Field. The second match will be played on Sunday October 11, followed by the third ODI on Wednesday, October 14. All three matches will begin at 1:50pm AEST.

The T20I series against New Zealand will then move to North Sydney Oval, with the opening match scheduled for Sunday, October 18. The second T20I will take place on Tuesday, October 20, followed by the final match on Thursday, October 22. All three matches will begin at 7.15pm AEST.

All six matches will be available live through Seven, 7Plus, Kayo Sports and Foxtel, giving Australian fans the opportunity to follow the national women’s team during its first home international campaign since the World Cup victory.

Australia squad: Nicola Carey, Ashleigh Gardner, Kim Garth, Lucy Hamilton, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Molineux, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Voll and Georgia Wareham. Molineux will captain the side, while Gardner and McGrath have been named vice-captains.
