Parramatta is set to dazzle this October as the city launches its very first Diwali Lights Competition, inviting residents to transform their homes, balconies, and apartments into a vibrant celebration of light, colour, and culture.
Running from 18 to 23 October, the initiative coincides with Diwali — the annual five-day global Festival of Lights, celebrated by millions around the world and recognised as one of the major religious festivals in Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism.
A Celebration of Community and Culture
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter encouraged locals to get involved and showcase their festive spirit.
“Diwali is a festival that brings people together, no matter where they’re from, and we want to reflect that spirit in our neighbourhoods and skylines,” Cr Zaiter said.
“This competition is about more than just colourful lights. Parramatta is proudly home to one of the most diverse communities in Australia and we are thrilled to bring that joy to our streets during this vibrant festival. We’re proud to launch this competition as a new tradition for Parramatta and we can’t wait to see the incredible culture and colour on display.”
