Titled Brahmaswarup Pramukh Swami Maharaj: Vistrut Jivan ane Karya, the extensive biography contains 8,848 pages and 2,146,447 words. It was written by Sanskrit scholar Sadhu Adarshjivandas, PhD, and chronicles the 94-year life of Pramukh Swami Maharaj, who lived from 1921 to 2016 and served as the spiritual leader of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha.

The work represents years of research into Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s spiritual journey, leadership and service. According to BAPS, the biography examines his life from his birth through his passing, covering his spiritual leadership, humility, devotion and commitment to serving people and communities across different parts of the world.

The scale of the project is reflected not only in its 13 volumes but also in the period required to complete it. Sadhu Adarshjivandas undertook the research and writing over 38 months, from July 2017 until August 2020, creating what BAPS describes as an extensive historical record of Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s life and work.

The Guinness World Records recognition was formally marked in London on 4 October 2026, when the official certificate was presented to His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj at OVO Arena Wembley. The presentation formed part of celebrations marking Mahant Swami Maharaj’s 93rd birth anniversary. BAPS said more than 10,500 people witnessed the presentation inside the arena, while tens of thousands more followed the event through a live webcast.

Guinness World Records Senior Adjudicator Carl Saville presented the certificate during the ceremony. He described the presentation as an honour and highlighted the organisation’s role in documenting unusual and significant achievements from around the world.

For the author, however, the achievement has been framed less around the scale of the record and more around the person whose life the biography documents. Sadhu Adarshjivandas said Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s life, characterised by spirituality, humility, compassion and service, was more important than the author of the work itself.

Pramukh Swami Maharaj led BAPS for decades and became widely associated with a life centred on spiritual guidance, personal interaction and service. The biography seeks to preserve those aspects of his life in considerable detail, creating a resource that can be referred to by future generations.

The publication has also reached a substantial readership. More than 310,000 copies of the volumes have been sold, according to BAPS, indicating the scale of interest in the biography among readers and followers of Pramukh Swami Maharaj.

Beyond its Guinness recognition, the biography is being presented as an extensive archive of Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s life and activities. Its size allows the work to document a wide range of experiences and contributions rather than providing only a condensed account of his spiritual leadership.

The latest recognition also adds to a series of Guinness World Records achievements associated with BAPS during 2026. In February, 12,723 children in Vadodara participated in a simultaneous recital of Sanskrit verses from Satsang Diksha, establishing the Guinness World Records title for the Largest Simultaneous Hindu Text Recital. BAPS said more than 15,000 children had memorised all 315 verses as part of the broader initiative.

The biography record therefore comes at a significant time for BAPS, with the organisation marking another achievement connected with the preservation and sharing of its spiritual and cultural heritage. The work on Pramukh Swami Maharaj stands out for its extraordinary scale, with more than two million words devoted to documenting one life.

For those involved in the project, the Guinness recognition provides an international acknowledgement of a lengthy scholarly and archival undertaking. At the same time, the biography serves as a detailed written record of Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s life, ensuring that his experiences, teachings, service and legacy remain documented for readers in the years ahead.
