TIME Magazine has named YouTube’s Indian-origin CEO Neal Mohan as its 2025 “CEO of the Year,” recognising his leadership in guiding YouTube through a period of remarkable growth and influence.

Under Mohan’s stewardship since 2023 – when he succeeded Susan Wojcicki – YouTube has further consolidated its dominance in the global digital video space. The platform reportedly draws more than two billion daily visitors this year, and its reach across mobile, TV and short-form content has expanded significantly.

TIME praised Mohan’s leadership style as calm, considered and effective – qualities that stand out in the fast-paced world of global tech. The magazine described him as the “farmer” cultivating the “cultural diet” that billions consume daily. Under his watch, YouTube’s growth has remained strong despite fierce competition.

Mohan’s background reflects a unique blend of Indian roots and global experience. Born in the United States, he spent part of his childhood in Lucknow, where he studied Hindi and Sanskrit, before returning to the U.S. for higher studies. He later completed electrical engineering and an MBA at Stanford University.

Before becoming CEO, Mohan held key roles within YouTube and its parent company. He helped drive the development of major platform features and monetisation efforts, contributing to the company’s long-term strategic direction.

As YouTube continues to evolve – expanding its services across devices, strengthening creator support, and navigating challenges such as content moderation and competition – industry watchers believe Mohan’s leadership will be pivotal. The “CEO of the Year” honour affirms his growing influence on global digital media and content culture.
