Councillor Frank De Masi will continue as Deputy Mayor of The Hills Shire after securing a third consecutive term in the position. He was re-elected unopposed by fellow Councillors during the Council meeting on 25 August, extending his tenure until 13 September 2027 and maintaining continuity within the local government leadership.
Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne congratulated De Masi following the vote and said she was pleased to continue working with him as the council responds to the needs of a rapidly expanding community. She described him as a committed representative who consistently advocates for services, infrastructure and facilities needed across the Shire.
Mayor Byrne also highlighted De Masi’s involvement beyond formal council responsibilities, pointing to his participation in community events, support for local initiatives and advocacy on major infrastructure priorities. She said his third successive appointment reflected the confidence and regard he has built among his fellow Councillors during his years of public service.
De Masi said he was grateful for the backing of his colleagues and regarded the Deputy Mayor position as an opportunity to contribute further to the community. He said his focus remained on achieving positive outcomes for residents and emphasised the importance of cooperation between elected representatives and Council staff.
The Deputy Mayor also credited his family for helping him continue his public service commitments. He specifically thanked his wife, Clare, and other family members for their ongoing encouragement and support throughout his time in local government.
De Masi has lived in The Hills Shire for 29 years and has represented the community on Council since 2017. His long association with the area has given him extensive experience in local government and an understanding of issues affecting residents across the growing Sydney region.
Before entering Council, De Masi developed qualifications in business and management. He holds a Bachelor of Business with a major in Human Resource Management, an Advanced Certificate in Management and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
His continued appointment comes as The Hills Shire experiences substantial population growth and increasing demand for transport, community facilities, services and infrastructure. His responsibilities as Deputy Mayor will include working alongside the Mayor and fellow Councillors as the local government responds to these changing requirements.
The re-election also provides stability to the Council’s leadership team, with De Masi now set to remain in the Deputy Mayor role through September 2027. His third consecutive term marks another chapter in a local government career that has included nearly a decade as a Hills Shire Councillor.
For residents, the coming term is expected to remain focused on managing growth while ensuring the delivery of infrastructure, services and facilities keeps pace with the needs of communities throughout The Hills Shire. De Masi’s continued role will place him at the centre of those local government priorities over the next year.
