In a significant move to enhance access to early childhood education, the Albanese Labor Government has pledged $5.3 million to support the development of a new early education and care service led by the Sikh Grammar School Australia.

Announced as part of Labor’s re-election commitments, the funding will contribute to the planning and construction of the facility, which will be established in Sydney to meet the needs of the growing Sikh community and surrounding areas.

Australia’s Sikh community has seen remarkable growth over the past decade, nearly tripling in size since 2011. Today, more than 210,000 Australians identify with Sikhism, making it one of the fastest-growing faith groups in the country.

The new early learning service is expected to operate as a not-for-profit, long daycare centre approved for Child Care Subsidy (CCS), helping to make quality early education more accessible for families in the community. Funding will be delivered in accordance with the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles to ensure transparency and accountability.

Minister for Education, Jason Clare, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating:

“This is all about expanding access to early education and care so more young Australians get the benefit of early education. A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will work with Sikh Grammar School Australia to help deliver their vision.”

The project represents not only a strategic investment in early education but also a meaningful partnership with one of Australia’s vibrant and growing multicultural communities.
