Kho Kho Australia will host its Second National Kho Kho Championship from 13 to 15 November 2026 at Waverley Meadows Primary School in Wheelers Hill, Victoria, bringing together 20 teams for three days of national competition.
The championship will feature 10 women’s teams and 10 men’s teams, with approximately 300 players and more than 20 team officials representing six Australian states and territories: the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.
Building Kho Kho’s Presence Across Australia
Since its establishment in October 2024, Kho Kho Australia has marked several milestones in developing the sport nationally.
These include representing Australia at the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup in January 2025, establishing the country’s first dedicated Kho Kho ground in Liverpool, and organising exhibition matches at the Australian Masters Games 2025.
The organisation also held its inaugural National Championship in Liverpool, NSW, in December 2025. Dedicated Kho Kho grounds have since been established in Victoria, while exhibition games, friendly matches, local competitions and community initiatives have supported the sport’s growth across several states.
The upcoming championship builds on this progress and aims to showcase the increasing participation and interest in Kho Kho across Australia.
Participation Grows from 30 to 300 Players
Reflecting on the sport’s development, Kho Kho Australia President Raj Sura highlighted the significant increase in participation over the past two years.
“In 2024, we had to search hard to find 30 players to represent Australia at the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup. By 2026, we have 300 players participating in the National Championship – a remarkable reflection of the sport’s growing popularity across Australia,” he said.
Kho Kho Australia has invited the wider community, sporting enthusiasts and media representatives to attend the championship and experience national-level competition.
