Australia has added young leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha to its T20 squad ahead of the much-anticipated India series, as senior spinner Adam Zampa will miss the opening matches due to personal commitments. This move marks another big step in Sangha’s growing international journey and highlights Australia’s strategic depth in spin bowling.

The 23-year-old New South Wales prodigy, known for his sharp leg breaks and calm composure, has been in sensational form on the domestic circuit. Sangha currently leads the One-Day Cup wicket tally for NSW, with ten wickets at an impressive average of 14.10. His recent performances in India, where he picked up seven wickets in three List A matches in Kanpur, have further cemented his reputation as one of Australia’s brightest bowling prospects.
Sangha first made headlines during his T20I debut against South Africa in Durban, where he took 4 for 31 – a dream start for any young spinner. In his seven T20 internationals so far, he has bagged ten wickets at an average below 25, showcasing a consistent knack for breakthroughs in the middle overs.
With Zampa unavailable at the start of the series due to paternity leave, selectors have turned to Sangha to fill the void and strengthen the bowling unit. Matthew Kuhnemann is also expected to feature prominently in the upcoming fixtures, providing the team with additional spin options as they face the formidable Indian batting lineup.

Sangha’s inclusion not only rewards his current form but also reflects Australia’s commitment to nurturing young talent ahead of major international tournaments. His maturity, control, and ability to perform under pressure make him an exciting addition to the squad – one that could play a key role in Australia’s T20 campaign in India.
As the series kicks off at Manuka Oval in Canberra, all eyes will be on the emerging spin sensation, who now has the opportunity to prove his mettle against one of the strongest batting sides in world cricket.
