Harris Park’s vibrant Little India precinct has been given a striking new identity, with a large-scale mural transforming Station Street East into one of Western Sydney’s most visually engaging cultural landmarks. The artwork, now the longest mural in the Parramatta region, celebrates the rich diversity and evolving story of the community.

Stretching over 100 metres, the mural captures the essence of Harris Park as a thriving multicultural hub. Known widely as Sydney’s “Little India,” the precinct is brought to life through bold colours, storytelling and artistic detail that reflect its unique blend of food, culture and community.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Martin Zaiter described the project as a defining moment for public art in Western Sydney. He highlighted how the mural not only enhances the streetscape but also reinforces Harris Park’s identity as a must-visit destination for locals and visitors alike.
The artwork takes inspiration from the daily rhythm of the precinct – from sunrise to nightfall – weaving together Indian and Australian elements. It features imagery of the Parramatta River, native wildlife, bustling food scenes and cultural festivals, creating a visual narrative that reflects migration, belonging and community life.

Developed by a collaborative artist team including Gauri Torgalkar, Em Hatton and Patrick Hunter (InkHunter), the mural was shaped through community consultation. This approach ensured that the final artwork authentically represents the voices and lived experiences of Harris Park residents.
The project forms part of a broader vision to enhance the Harris Park Cultural Precinct, with further upgrades planned to improve public spaces. These include decorative lighting, upgraded pavements, new landscaping and gateway features designed to create a more welcoming and accessible environment.
Federal Member for Parramatta Andrew Charlton noted that the mural marks the beginning of a wider investment aimed at strengthening the precinct’s appeal while supporting local businesses and community life.

Backed by funding through the Australian Government’s community infrastructure program and delivered by the City of Parramatta, the initiative reflects a growing focus on placemaking – where art, culture and design come together to shape vibrant urban spaces.
As Harris Park continues to evolve as one of Sydney’s most recognized multicultural destinations, the mural stands as both a visual landmark and a celebration of identity – capturing the spirit of Little India in a way that resonates with the community and beyond.
