Mother’s Day is a special time to celebrate the care, strength, and love that mums bring into everyday life. While it’s often seen as a day to give thanks, it’s also a chance for children – both young and older – to play an important role in making their mum feel truly valued. Why not make this Mother’s Day is a beautiful opportunity for you and your kids to reconnect in a calm, pressure-free way.

This applies especially to teenagers who are often finding it challenging to navigate school, friendships, constant digital noise, identity and growing independence. This is where yoga and mindfulness can quietly become something powerful you share together.

Rather than forcing deep conversations, sharing a few mindful moments side by side can build connection naturally.

Here’s a simple, calm routine mums and kids (including teenagers) can do together on Mother’s Day. It takes about 5–10 minutes and works for all ages.

1. Settle (1 minute)
Sit comfortably together, either cross-legged or in chairs. Close your eyes or soften your gaze. Let your shoulders drop and hands rest gently.

2. Breathing (1-2 minutes)
Inhale slowly through the nose for 4 counts, hold for 2, then exhale through the mouth for 4.
Younger kids can imagine “smelling a flower” (inhale) and “blowing out a candle” (exhale).
Repeat quietly, syncing your breaths if it feels natural.

3. Mindful Moments (1–2 minutes)
Sitting together, gently notice how your body feels. Notice the rhythm of your breath. There is no need to change anything – just observe together. Look around at your family. Allow yourself to feel the love and connection with them.

4. Affirmations (2–3 minutes)

After a few breaths, repeat any or all of the affirmations silently or aloud:

I am calm. I am supported. I am enough.
I am loved. I am grateful for you.
We are connected. We are a team.

Finish with a smile or hug to seal the moment.

There YouGo! This Mother’s Day, step away from distractions and give each other something lasting: your time, your presence, and a few blissful moments of calm.
