From Australia to India, three cricketers with Punjabi roots recently had the opportunity to showcase their talent on the cricket field.
There was plenty to cheer about for the Australian Punjabi community as Jason Sangha, Tanveer Sangha and Nikhil Chaudhary toured India with Australia A, taking part in four-day red-ball cricket and 50-over matches. For cricket fans in Australia, particularly those with Punjabi and Indian roots, it was an exciting opportunity to follow three players whose journeys reflect the growing connection between Australian and Indian cricket.

Although they have taken different paths in the game, all three share a passion for cricket and the ambition to make their mark.
Jason Sangha is no stranger to the spotlight. A talented batter, he captained Australia’s Under-19 team to victory at the 2018 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Since then, he has continued to work towards greater opportunities in the game. Touring India provided another chance to test his skills in conditions where patience, technique and the ability to handle spin are particularly important.

Then there is Tanveer Sangha, the exciting leg-spinner who has caught the attention of Australian cricket fans. Known for his ability to turn the ball and trouble batters, Tanveer has represented Australia at the senior international level in limited-overs cricket. The tour of India offered him valuable experience in conditions that can challenge even the most accomplished bowlers, helping him continue to develop his game.
Nikhil Chaudhary brought his own story to the mix. An all-rounder who has pursued his cricketing ambitions in Australia, Nikhil has worked hard to establish himself in the competitive cricket scene. The opportunity to play in India gave him another platform to showcase his abilities, adapt to different conditions and take his game to the next level.

For the Punjabi community in Australia, seeing these players compete in India was something special. It was about more than just runs scored or wickets taken. It was about watching cricketers with Punjabi roots pursue their ambitions and represent the multicultural spirit of Australian cricket, inspiring the next generation to follow their dreams.
And let’s be honest there is something special about playing cricket in India. The passionate crowds, the atmosphere, the different pitches and the deep love for the game make it an experience unlike any other. For players coming from Australia, the tour was an opportunity to challenge themselves, gain valuable experience and enjoy cricket in one of the sport’s most passionate homes.

With both the four-day red-ball and 50-over formats offering different challenges, the players had the opportunity to develop their skills, sharpen their game awareness and test themselves against the demands of different playing conditions.
As Jason Sangha, Tanveer Sangha and Nikhil Chaudhary returned from their Indian tour, their journeys served as another reminder of the strong cricketing connection between Australia and India.
Three players, one shared passion and a journey connecting two cricket-loving nations. For Australia’s Punjabi community, their involvement was a proud moment and another reason to get behind the players as they continue pursuing their cricketing dreams.
