South Australian exports to India have reached record heights, latest ABS trade data has revealed, with annual goods sales to the world’s most populous country now worth more than $1.4 billion to the state’s economy.

Since the Malinauskas Government was elected in March 2022, the Indian market has grown significantly with annual exports now $322.5 million or 30 per cent higher.

The results follow high-level delegations led by the South Australian Government, with Premier Peter Malinauskas’ India mission this year following Minister Joe Szakacs’ visit in 2024.

The Malinauskas Government is committed to further strengthening the South Australia-India relationship, building on shared values and cultural ties.

More than 40,000 South Australians were born in India1, while many others choose our state for a world-class education.

The Premier’s March delegation included Flinders University Vice Chancellor Colin Stirling and Adelaide University co-Vice Chancellors Peter Høj and David Lloyd.

Following a Malinauskas Government election commitment in 2022 to explore a merger between South Australian universities, an amalgamated Adelaide University will launch in 2026 and is projected to teach 70,000 students by 2034.

The new university is also expected to contribute an additional $500 million to the South Australian economy by 2034.

The State Government’s recently released five-year trade and investment strategy identified India as a target market due to its dynamic, fast-growing economy.

India  is the state’s third largest export partner behind China and the United States.
