A new chapter has begun in South Australia, with the South Australian Labor Government officially sworn in at Government House under the leadership of Premier Peter Malinauskas. The refreshed Cabinet reflects a strong and forward-looking agenda focused on economic growth, social development and long-term stability.

The formal swearing-in ceremony, presided over by Governor Frances Adamson, marked the beginning of the government’s renewed mandate. With a mix of experienced leaders and new appointments, the Cabinet aims to deliver across key sectors shaping the state’s future.

Housing and urban development have been placed at the centre of the agenda, with Nick Champion taking charge of portfolios addressing supply, infrastructure and planning. These areas remain critical as the state works to tackle housing affordability and meet growing demand.

A strong focus on innovation is also evident, with Chris Picton overseeing a broad portfolio including state development, artificial intelligence, the digital economy, defence and space industries. The move signals South Australia’s ambition to position itself as a leader in emerging technologies and advanced industries.
Healthcare and community wellbeing remain priorities, with Blair Boyer appointed as Minister for Health and Wellbeing. Meanwhile, Katrine Hildyard continues her work across human services, seniors and women, reinforcing the government’s focus on inclusive and people-centred policies.

Infrastructure and transport, key drivers of economic productivity, will be led by Joe Szakacs, while environmental sustainability and tourism have been combined under Emily Bourke, highlighting the link between natural assets and economic growth.
Education and skills development are being shaped by Lucy Hood, whose portfolio also includes autism and city planning, reflecting a tailored and inclusive approach. Public safety responsibilities fall to Michael Brown, covering police, corrections and consumer affairs.

The Cabinet also places strong emphasis on community engagement and social protection. Nadia Clancy will support small businesses and multicultural communities, while Alice Rolls leads key portfolios focused on child protection and addressing domestic and family violence.
Deputy Premier Kyam Maher holds major legal and cultural responsibilities, while Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis oversees economic management alongside energy and mining. Regional development is guided by Clare Scriven, ensuring growth extends beyond metropolitan areas.

Supporting roles have also been strengthened, with Rhiannon Pearce handling local government and emergency services, while assistant ministers focus on strategic sectors like critical minerals and the arts.
Overall, the new Cabinet reflects a balance of experience and renewal, with a clear focus on economic resilience, innovation and community wellbeing. As South Australia moves into its next phase, the government’s leadership signals a strong commitment to delivering outcomes that support both immediate needs and long-term growth.
