Sydney is set to glow brighter than ever as Vivid Sydney 2026 returns from 22 May to 13 June, bringing a vibrant mix of light, creativity and family-friendly experiences across the city.

With more than 80 per cent of the program free, this year’s festival places a strong focus on families, offering interactive installations, performances and immersive experiences designed to engage children and create memorable moments for all ages.
A Spectacular First at the Sydney Opera House
One of the standout highlights this year is Cristal Palace, a breathtaking open-air spectacle at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt. Making its Australian debut, this free performance will feature an overhead chandelier with musicians performing high above the audience, combining aerial acrobatics, dance and circus in a visually stunning 70-minute show.
A Seamless Light Walk for Families
The iconic Vivid Light Walk returns as a fully connected 6.5km experience, linking Circular Quay, The Rocks, Barangaroo and Darling Harbour. Designed with accessibility in mind, the route is pram-friendly and begins from 6pm each evening, allowing families to explore at their own pace.

Along the way, visitors can experience more than 43 light installations, while Cockle Bay will host a free nightly laser show running every hour from 6pm to 11pm.
Interactive Fun for Kids
Families can head to Tumbalong Park for the return of Tumbalong Kids, a lively program encouraging children to sing, dance and play every Saturday evening. Featuring performers like Jay Laga’aia along with popular acts such as Mik Maks, Benny Time and Angie Who, the program is designed to spark imagination and creativity.

Another major attraction is Star-Bound, the Vivid drone show held in Darling Harbour. Running Sunday to Wednesday nights (excluding 7 June), this extended season will feature 22 shows, making it the longest drone show run in Vivid history.
Immersive Experiences for Young Audiences
At the Australian National Maritime Museum, families can explore Wonderverse, a ticketed 40-minute immersive adventure designed for children aged 4 to 10. Created by Patch Theatre, the experience blends storytelling, light and play in a magical forest setting filled with glowing fireflies.
Driving Sydney’s Global Cultural Appeal
Major events like Vivid Sydney play a significant role in boosting the state’s visitor economy, supporting jobs and showcasing NSW as a global leader in creative and cultural experiences.

Organised by Destination NSW, the festival is expected to attract millions of visitors, energising the city’s night-time economy while delivering world-class experiences across Light, Music, Ideas and Food.
Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper emphasised that the festival offers something for everyone, while Festival Director Brett Sheehy highlighted the importance of creating magical, memorable experiences for families.
As Sydney prepares to light up once again, Vivid 2026 promises a celebration of imagination, culture and community – inviting families to experience the city in a whole new way.
