Hornsby Shire Council has recognised more than 30 local organisations at its annual Community Milestone Awards, celebrating their dedication, community spirit and contributions to residents across the Shire.

The ceremony was held at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre on Thursday, 22 October 2026, recognising organisations reaching significant anniversaries this year, from 10 years to an extraordinary 180 years of service.
Among the organisations honoured were Barker College, celebrating its 130th anniversary, Milsons Passage Rural Fire Service (RFS), marking 75 years, IABBV Hindi School, celebrating 40 years, and Hornsby Connect, recognising its 10-year milestone.

Celebrating Diverse Contributions Across the Shire
The organisations recognised represent a wide range of sectors, including education, emergency services, community welfare, faith, sport, culture and environmental stewardship.
Their achievements reflect the important role played by volunteers, community leaders and local organisations in building and sustaining connected communities throughout Hornsby Shire.

Mayor Warren Waddell said the awards provided an opportunity to acknowledge the people and organisations whose long-standing efforts have helped shape the local community.
“These milestone anniversaries reflect years of dedication, service and community spirit,” Mayor Waddell said.

“Whether they have served the community for 10 years or 180 years, each organisation has made an important contribution to the lives of Hornsby Shire residents. The Community Milestone Awards are an opportunity to recognise the volunteers, members and leaders whose efforts have helped these organisations grow and thrive.”
Recognising Years of Community Service
Certificates of recognition were presented to representatives of organisations celebrating significant anniversaries, acknowledging their years of volunteering, leadership and service.

While this year’s awards highlighted organisations reaching milestone anniversaries, Council also acknowledged the wider network of community groups, volunteers and not-for-profit organisations that contribute throughout the year.
Their ongoing work helps make Hornsby Shire a vibrant, inclusive and connected place to live, work and participate in community life.

The Community Milestone Awards serve as a tribute to the organisations and individuals whose commitment continues to strengthen the Shire across generations.
