A bold new vision has been set for Sydney Olympic Park, positioning it not just as a world-class sporting and entertainment destination, but as a thriving community where people can live, work and connect. The newly finalised Master Plan 2050 outlines a long-term transformation focused on housing, jobs and sustainability.

Led by the NSW Government under Premier Chris Minns, the plan increases the number of homes in the precinct, ensuring more families can live close to essential services, transport and employment opportunities. The vision reflects a broader push toward creating self-sustained urban communities.

At the heart of the plan is a significant housing boost, with up to 15,000 homes proposed, including 13,000 new dwellings. A portion of these will be allocated as affordable housing, aiming to support diverse communities and improve accessibility in one of Sydney’s key growth areas.

Beyond housing, the precinct is set to become a major employment hub, with capacity for up to 26,000 jobs. Investment in commercial, cultural and innovation spaces is expected to drive economic activity while creating new opportunities for businesses and workers.

The Master Plan also places strong emphasis on lifestyle and community wellbeing. Families can expect new recreational spaces, including 10 playgrounds, 9 public outdoor areas and 4 sports fields, designed to support active living and social connection.

Environmental sustainability remains a central focus, with over 430 hectares of public open space to be protected and enhanced. Plans include increasing tree canopy, improving biodiversity and preserving wetlands, continuing the legacy of the “Green Games” that defined the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

Cultural and community infrastructure will also play a key role in the precinct’s future. Proposed developments include a cultural centre, library, community hub and sports and leisure facilities, alongside dedicated land for schools to support a growing population.

The transformation will be supported by major infrastructure projects, including Sydney Metro West and the Parramatta Light Rail extension, ensuring strong connectivity across the region. Improvements to roads and transport links will further enhance accessibility for residents and visitors.

Planning Minister Paul Scully described the Master Plan as a blueprint for balancing growth with liveability, while Donna Davis highlighted the benefits for local communities, particularly improved transport and sustainable access.

With implementation set to unfold over the next 25 years, the Sydney Olympic Park Master Plan 2050 represents a significant step toward building a future-ready precinct – one that blends housing, employment, sustainability and lifestyle into a single, connected urban destination.
