The seasonal program features eight guided outings across locations including Hornsby, Cherrybrook, Fiddletown, Brooklyn, Cowan and the Berowra area. Each walk provides participants with an opportunity to discover parts of the Shire they may not have previously explored, while experienced guides offer information about the surrounding environment, vegetation, wildlife and local history.

The schedule begins with the Blue Gum Walk in Hornsby on Thursday, 10 September, followed by the Pyes Creek Bushwalk in Cherrybrook on Friday, 18 September. Participants can then join the Smugglers Ridge Bushwalk at Fiddletown on Sunday, 20 September, and the Endangered Forest Walk in Cherrybrook on Thursday, 24 September.

The program continues into October with a World Migratory Bird Day Walk in Brooklyn on Thursday, 8 October. Another major outing will take walkers between Berowra Station and Mount Kuring-gai Station on Saturday, 17 October, providing an opportunity to experience the region’s bushland and walking trails across a longer route.

November will feature two further opportunities to explore the Shire. The Lloyd Trig and Deerubbin Loop Bushwalk in Cowan is scheduled for Thursday, 12 November, followed by the Kangaroo Point Boardwalk Bushwalk in Brooklyn on Thursday, 19 November. Together, the walks provide a broad selection of landscapes and experiences for local participants.

Hornsby Shire Mayor Warren Waddell has encouraged residents to participate, particularly those who have not previously joined one of Council’s guided walks. The program combines outdoor recreation with environmental learning, allowing participants to better understand the plants, animals and natural features found throughout the Bushland Shire.

The guided walks form part of Hornsby Shire Council’s ongoing seasonal program, which is designed to highlight different parts of the local environment throughout the year. New programs are released three times annually, with each season offering residents opportunities to experience the changing character of the region’s bushland.

Participation in the spring program is restricted to Hornsby Shire residents, and places are expected to be popular. Council advises residents to plan ahead and register early, as bookings become available one month before each individual walk. Further information about the walks, including registration details and dates, is available through Council’s official bushwalks program.

With accessible outdoor experiences, knowledgeable guides and a variety of locations across the Shire, the spring program offers residents a chance to discover local landscapes while learning more about the environment around them. The initiative also highlights the importance of protecting and appreciating Hornsby’s distinctive bushland for future generations.
